Lily was born on May 31 at 6:30pm after my water broke while I was cleaning the bathroom floor (no joke!). She was 8 lbs 5 oz and 20 1/2 inches long.

Kate is not getting the attention she needs as shown here...she got herself dressed for church today!

Since my last post many wonderful things have happened...

1. Hank was called to be the Bishop of our ward

2. Pregnant and due beginning of June

3. Completed my third half marathon and this time...10 1/2 weeks pregnant

4. The fun-filled holidays with young believers around!

5. A lot of unexpected snow for the Birmingham area...Snow days!

6. Kate broke her wrist

7. We're having another little girl

These are just some of the reasons I have not posted... But the pictures highlight all that took place between now and the last post. I mean, truly, that is all anyone wants to see anyway...right??

Hank came home from work last Thursday with a "surprise" for the boys. I told the boys to go outside because Dad was almost home and he had a surprise for them. I was sure that it was something minor that he had found during his work day. A dog, really a puppy, however, in my small opinion, is not minor. I was not thrilled.

How am I going to take care of one more thing during my day? Well, needless to say the dog...which we have named Dixie is now officially ours and is part of our growing family!

Hank told me later that he thought it would be ok since we had agreed that sometime around Christmas we would get a dog...it's almost Christmas right???

Nolan started Pre-K this week. He goes everyday from 9:30-1:30 and it is great for both of us! I thought I may have trouble filling my time with only one child at home...but it is already filled! He loves school, his teachers, and all his friends.

I honestly cannot believe my little boy is in first grade. He absolutely loves it! I love when he gets off the bus smiling ear to ear and eager to tell me about what he did for the day. He adores his new teacher, Mrs Chambliss. She has been teaching 1st grade for 22 years and she is still as bubbly and enthusiastic as a new grad + she has all the experience. We are looking forward to a great year!

We just moved...yes, again...still in Trussville, Alabama. Needless to say our lives have been busy, especially since we also took a trip to California for a family reunion during all of this. My brother Jason, returned from serving his mission for the church in Leeds, England and my parents are currently in the MTC soaking in all the knowledge needed before they head off to Des Moines, Iowa to serve as Mission President and Mission Mother.

During our trip we were lucky enough to have my sister-in-law coax her talented sister into taking our family pictures. She did an awesome job...please go to her blog to see some of the pictures...

We have definitely taken advantage of the beautiful spring weather and spent a lot of time outside lately....here are some pictures to show it! With weather this nice we sometimes think we are back in San Diego!

All of these pictures were taken in Trussville where we live. This trail along the Cahaba River is beautiful and only a couple miles from our house. I run there a few times a week...Perfect!

My Sweet Boy (Most of the time!)

This kid is going to drive me crazy! Those eyes and that smile can be very deceiving! However, there are moments where I just want to hug and kiss him to death!

A couple of weeks ago I was running a little behind schedule (go figure!) and something stopped me and I felt prompted to write a little note and put it in Nolans lunch box. It read "We love you Nolan! Love, Dad, Mom, Chase and Kate"

Just this past week my mother-in-law came down to accompany Nolan to school for Grandparents day. During that time they were encouraged to attend the Book Fair (so smart to do a book fair on Grandparents day!). My mom had sent some money for Nolan to use during the book fair, but Nolan had left the money in an envelope in his backpack...so he and his teacher returned to the room to get it. In the rush to get the money out of the backpack a white piece of paper got stuck to the envelope containing the money and his teacher tossed the paper in the trash. My mother-in-law watched as Nolan walked over to the trash can and removed the paper and handed it to her. He asked her to hold it because it was his special note from me...it was the note I had written and put in his lunch box two weeks ago...he had kept it in his backpack!

That pulled at my heartstrings...I sometimes forget that in between all the wrestling and dirty knees...boys need some extra TLC and they love every minute of it. I guess I will be writing more notes to tell these special kids how much I love and adore them!!!!

Before we left for Destin, Florida the Monday before Thanksgiving we spent Sunday as a family in Birmingham for Brock's blessing. That afternoon my parents said they had received special permission from Jason's mission president to call him. My Dad said it was because all of us were together for Thanksgiving and would not be together for Christmas. Everyone of us thought that seemed a little strange but soon found out the reason for calling Jason. My parents have been called to serve as Mission Presidents. They do not know where they will be serving but know they will begin this wonderful journey in July. We will miss them greatly but know that their lives will be blessed for their service! Congratulations Mom and Dad!

Last weekend was so special for our family. As we have done with each of our children, Hank had the opportunity to give Kate a beautiful blessing at church. My parents flew into town and Hank's mom and sister came down from Nashville to spend this special occasion with our family. Hank did a beautiful job blessing her and she looked precious in her white gown. While I was getting her dressed, Nolan came into the room and stared at her for a couple minutes and then softly kissed her forehead and whispered "You are the most beautifulest girl in the whole world." Those our the moments of motherhood that make it all worth it!

I cannot believe that my little boy is old enough for school. He was so excited to go and I was not as excited to let him go. I really cannot believe that it has been two weeks since Kate was born. She has been a fantastic baby sleeping so much more than my boys ever did. We were so blessed to have my mom and my mother-in-law here to help during the first weeks. Everyone is now gone and I am left home with three children...hopefully we will all survive!

Jess was AWESOME!!! We thought we were in for a very long day because she was only dialated to a 4 after about 12 hours. But after the epidural, she quickly went to a 10 within 30 minutes. The nurse had to hold Kate's head in so she could wait for the doctor. Jess pushed one time and she came right out.

She is our pretty princess and the boys love her so much. Chase was a little unsure at first, but after she had her bath, he warmed right up to her. Nolan had tons of questions like "Why doesnt she have any clothes on when she comes out?" and "Is she kept in a cage in mommys tummy before she's born? Is that why shes so dirty?"

We are so blessed to have a little girl join our growing family and will update pictures soon! Thanks to everyone who called and emailed their support! We love you guys!

We have been horrible at blogging the past couple months...sorry! After our return from Utah, we packed our house and made the move to Birmingham, AL. Needless to say, we have been busy.

We are finally feeling somewhat settled and awaiting the arrival of our little girl. I went to the doctor today and I am dilated to a 1 and 50% effaced. It looks like they will admit me to the hospital tonight to start the induction process. We are looking forward to this new addition....pictures to come, hopefully soon!

Zwick Family Reunion 2009

You would never know from this picture...but my boys were so excited to go on the airplane to Utah. I think their somber faces were due to the fact that our flight left at 5:30am which meant being at the airport at 4:30am...what we were thinking???

We arrived in Utah at 10:30am Sunday morning, got the rental car, and headed straight to my grandparents house. The smell of their home as we walked through the door always takes me back to my childhood visits, some of my most cherished memories.

We were fortunate to have my aunt Connie offer to let us stay with her for a couple days. My boys loved staying with her and in fact started calling her Grandma Connie, much to my mothers dismay!

We visited family, went to the dinosaur museum, but the highlight for my boys was the trip to Hogle Zoo and Lagoon...here are some of the pictures...

"No Screaming at the Table!"

Growing up with 6 children there was never a quiet moment, especially at the dinner table. My mom was notorious for saying "no screaming at the table."

A few nights ago Hank and I sat down at the table with Chase and Nolan hoping to have a nice quiet family dinner, chalked full of good conversation with our boys. Once the screaming began Hank said "stop, stop..." I thought he meant stop screaming but no, he wanted the boys to stop for a second so he could get it on video. I am surrounded by too much testosterone...I think we may need a girl in this family!

Notice Nolan's crying at the end...somehow he found way to blame Chase, as if he wasn't a part of it...I am preparing myself for the teenage years.

MONSTER JAM

Chase and Nolan have been enamored with monster trucks for about the last 9 months. For Christmas Jess bought the boys Monster Jam tickets. In the tradition of the South, I spent the day prior with the boys making Monster Jam posters. Chase's favorite truck is Grave Digger and Nolan's is Maximum Destruction or Blue Thunder (depending on the day).

Nolan loves Sugar cookies

We have truly fallen off the blogging world...I am sorry. I do feel that I have a good excuse. I am pregnant and have been feeling the 1st trimester more than ever!

My boys are really excited (little do they know how much time we have before the baby is here). Chase really, really wants a girl. He tells us every day that he is so excited for his baby sister to come and he wants her to sleep in his room. My mom has already sent an outfit and Chase promptly put it in his drawer, because he is "sharing his drawers" with the baby.

Nolan wants a boy...mostly because Chase wants a girl.

Christmas cards did not get sent out this year, again I am blaming the 1st trimester for that as well.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas...I promise to post more pictures soon.

What a great Halloween and weekend with the family. We were all excited to have Grandpa and Grandma Scudder out to visit. We had so much fun with Uncle J and Aunt Amy at their house in Brentwood. The kids had a blast playing with Rene the dog and with all of Uncle J's cool toys. Tennessee is such a beautiful state and it was a perfect fall weekend with all the trees changing colors. It's so nice to have family that lives close enough to visit. The boys had such a blast going house to house trick or treating. They grow up so fast and it's so great to see how much fun they are.

Anytime we have friends or family in town we try to go to the museum. The kids think it is great and, as you can see in the pictures below, they can be a bit on the goofy side!

This time we were able to meet my best friend Lynsey (who we only see once or maybe twice a year) and her husband, Mike, and their two boys Jack (4 1/2) and Owen (2). Chase has been waiting for weeks for their visit and has talked endlessly about which states they will have to fly through to make it all the way to Georgia from Minnesota. He told me the other night before going to bed that "Jack was his bestest friend in the whole wide world" (too cute).

Before moving to the south, I did not know that Alabama had a coast! Alabama does have a coast and it is beautiful. The boys all had the time of their lives.

This past weekend we went to Gulf Shores, Alabama with my sister and her family. In my early years, I remember spending summer vacation time in Idaho and being with cousins, there is not a greater memory that I have. I hope my boys will always remember having fun with their cousins!

Thanks to everyone who made the "Hillbilly" supper-club such a success. The most popular event of the night was by far the karaoke. Denise rocked the house all night and we think she truly missed her calling in life. The food was outstanding and there's nothing like BBQ. Labor Day Weekend

Too much fun for one family to have...so we invited a few more people to share with. This past weekend was filled with great family fun that included Hank's sister and brother in law, Amy and J. (and Rene) We also enjoyed spending time with Hank's mom Sherry. They arrived from Tennessee on Friday night and stayed through Sunday afternoon. We had a great time hanging out and reminiscing. Hank and Amy decided to celebrate their birthdays together like when they were kids. Sherry made Hank's favorite yellow cake and chocolate frosting, and Amy's favorite chocolate cake with white frosting. We wont bore you with all the other details but will let the pictures do the talking. Thanks everyone...WE HAD A GREAT WEEKEND!

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs

Since our move to Georgia (almost 1 year ago) the boys have been amazed by all the bugs we have in our yard. I think the real interest started this summer when all the fireflies came out (If you want to be Southern correct, they are called lightning bugs) Every night Hank, Chase and Nolan would go out on their nightly ritual and look for fireflies and frogs.

Recently they have started identifying everything in the backyard from the Cardinals, Blue Jays, Finches and Warblers, to the butterflies, stick-bugs, ladybugs, lizards, and squirrels. It's so much fun (especially for Hank) to lure the squirrels up to the door with bird food and then swing the door open and scare the squirrels half to death. A Trip to the Big City (Atlanta)

After living here for a nearly year, it was time to explore outside Lagrange and take a trip north to Atlanta. In our summer reading, we have been reading a lot about transportation so I thought it would be fun to take the MARTA (Atlanta's Rapid Rail System). Each night at bedtime, we would talk endlessly about our upcoming trip. You would have thought we were embarking on the greatest adventure of our life...to have the mind of a child would be great! As the day approached I thought the boys might be disappointed once they realized what this "big trip" entailed. I think the pictures tell a thousand words, they were ecstatic from start to finish!

We started off driving to the MARTA station at College Park, just north of the airport. The boys would not even turn their heads for a picture. They just wanted to look out the windows and watch all the things we were passing.

Our first stop was the Olympic Centennial Park. This was the site of the gathering during the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. There are large Olympic Rings in the middle of the park that squirt water daily. Chase loved it!

We also decided to go to the Children's museum, which was the highlight of the trip! The boys had so much fun that we decided to buy the season pass. I had to drag both kids out of there after 3 hours of playtime.

Nolan was the "volunteer" during story and music time. When asked what his name was he said "Peter Man". He has a pair of PJ's that have Peter Pan on them and Hank has confused him by calling him Peter Pan on a regular basis. I guess he really thinks that is his name...funny kid!

Inside one of the exhibits they have a huge piece of plexi-glass for the kids to paint. Since I am a little OCD I do not let activities such as these take place at my house. I am so glad that I can now use my season pass to take my kids to the Museum to paint and the mess is left behind. Chase kept looking at me and I could tell he was wondering if this activity would be okay for him to participate in!

Happy birthday to the greatest person I know! Never in all my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would marry someone as great as my husband. One of my favorite things about Hank is his ability to make any situation 100 times more fun than you ever thought it could be. Chase and Nolan always choose to spend time with him "because he is so much funner" than I will ever be! Although his "fun" side is what truly stands out, he is also the most patient, loving and sensitive person. My parents have always said that Hank is a "jewel", and I know they are referring to how he deals with a crazy person such as me!

Our First 4th of July Spectacular turned out to be quite the success (no one caught on fire). Little did we know that in Georgia everyone puts on their own fireworks show from their own home so there is no need to leave the comforts of your driveway! We started our show a little early and after thinking that our $55 at the fireworks store in Alabama would really make all our neighbors jealous...we heard a huge BOOM! It was the neighbors behind us who had FOR REAL fireworks, like the kind that professionals use! According to Hank and Steve they must have spent $3000 just on fireworks! CRAZY what these southerners do and spend purely for fun!

Waterslides, Broken Noses & The Kill

What an exciting time to be a kid (especially in LaGrange). Legal fireworks have to be the best thing since fried okra. We had a very exciting month in June. Our front yard was transformed into a slip-n-slide mecca. Hank and Steve bought a 100ft roll of plastic from Home Depot, added some dish soap, and the slip-n-slide was open for business. Jess was sick the entire day (bummer for her) so Hank, Nolan, and Chase spent the entire day outside on the slip-n-slide. Thankfully there were no incidents or accidents. (We can't say the same thing for fathers day!)

Fathers day started out perfect. Hank was given 2 miniature sleeping bags which happened to be the perfect size for Nolan and Chase. The gift will be perfect for the upcoming camping trip at the beach. After church we grilled a 4lb fillet, had mashed potatoes, rolls, and broccoli. The steak was phenomenal and the night was outstanding. The kids were done with dinner and started playing in the other room. The adults started relaxing and suddenly a scream came from the other room. Jess and Steve jumped from their seats to see what happened. When I got to the room, Jess was holding Nolan (who was screaming and holding his nose). Jess had a panicked look on her face, and she said, "I think Nolan broke his nose!" I took him over to the chair and tilted his head back. His nose was already swollen and he had a black line right across the bridge of his nose. Jess called the doctor and he told us since Nolan was so young, the cartilage in his nose hadn't hardened enough to break, and he would probably be fine. About 5 minutes after the accident, Nolan was ready to get back to the playroom and start playing again. It was only after an hour of interrogation that we finally got the whole story of what happened. Apparently Nolan and Trent were playing a game where Nolan would stand on the bed and jump off. Trent was supposed to catch him, but instead they both collided and Nolan rammed his face into the wall. I really think Nolan will turn out to be a MMA Fighter.

It's been a long tradition with hunters (especially in the south) to drink the blood of their kill as a sign of...well who really knows? Anyway, I thought it only appropriate to show Nolan's first kill of the year. He completely slaughtered an innocent Popsicle. I think he's really taken to the southern style of fashion as well. We will be sure to update everyone after the 1st Annual Armstrong firework festival being held tonight. (hopefully the house will be standing, and NO visits to the emergency room will take place.)

I once heard a quote that reads, "Small boys become big men through the influence of big men who care about small boys." Through the past 35 years I've had many ups and downs in life. I'm so blessed to have a dad who has always stood by my side. One thing my Dad told me that I still use to this day was when he told me, "Son, tomorrow is another day." At the time I still may have been too immature to truly understand the words of wisdom he relayed to me. However, now that I'm older, I've used that quote more times than he will ever know. I've had great opportunities in my life and never went without anything. Whenever I have felt down or upset, I use that quote my Dad gave me to realize that I control my mood, actions, happiness, and life. I know that the following day is a chance for me to start fresh.

Thank you Dad! Thank you for being a teacher, a friend, a counselor, a hard worker, an example of love and kindness, and thank you for giving me a lifetime of unconditional love.

I have 3 favorite pictures of me and my dad. The first is a picture of when my dad dropped me off at school in Utah. I couldn't have been more excited to get into my own apartment and have a new chapter of my life begin at school. The picture is of my Dad and me on the front steps of the apartment. For whatever reason, I look about a foot taller than my dad. I love that picture because I really felt that I was finally doing what I should be doing in my life, and that my Dad was proud of my decisions. I looked everywhere for the picture, but I cant seem to find it. Trust me, it's a good one.

The second picture I have of my Dad is a picture (again) of the two of us. We were in Maui at Haleakala. We had to get up at 2am to get a van ride up the volcano and then ride our bikes down the volcano to the bottom. It was freezing on top of this volcano, and I remember walking out away from everyone with my dad and watching the sun come up. We didn't talk a whole lot while the sun came up that morning, but I felt the love my Dad had for me and I felt that we had a mutual bond that could never be broken.

The last picture I have is of my Dad and Chase on Memorial Day in 2005. They were eating Oreo's and having some kind of grandpa/grandson conversation. I'm so glad I have such a great relationship with my Dad and I'm so happy he loves my family and is such a big part of my families life. I love you Dad! Happy Fathers Day!

Dad and the Georgia Grandkids

As mentioned in our previous posts we have just returned from an amazing time in Southern California. For the first time in over a year I was able to go "home." You tend to forget how wonderful home really is until you are back in the comforts of family and friends. One of my favorite things about being home is going on a run with my dad. For those of you who do not know my dad, he is, in my opinion, the greatest dad anyone could ask for. It is so great to spend one-on-one time with him just talking as we run. We seem to understand each other and our conversations seem warm and comforting. My dad has not always enjoyed going on these runs. Just 5 years ago he made the committment to lose a lot of weight. He has accomplished and lives a healthy lifestyle. What an amazing accomplishment. I am so proud of you dad!

Moving to Georgia has been a great blessing in our lives. Although, owning your own business can be quite challenging at times. I feel blessed that I was able to work so much with my dad during my younger years. He too was a business owner and I saw the trials that he faced, I also saw the success that he reaped after good hard work and never giving up. Those memories that I have allow Hank and I to keep moving forward with our goals. Thank you Dad for teaching me the value of good hard work!

My Dad has taught me so many wonderful things. He has taught me the importance of family. He always supported my brothers and sister and I at each of our various activities, whether it be a soccer game, a baseball game, a piano recital, an awards ceremony...he was always there. He has been at every major event from graduations to weddings and most recently to 6 baby blessings as a grandfather.

Thank you for supporting us, loving us, and most importantly teaching us all you know! We love you Dad with all our hearts...thank you for being the greatest Dad that anyone could ever ask for!

Children of the Corn

Finally the fruits of our labor prevail. We just harvested about 9 ears of corn from our garden (minus the 2 that Nolan has already eaten). The ears are only between 6"-9" long and have about a 4"-6" circumference, but it is the sweetest corn I have ever tasted. I pulled an ear off the plant and peeled back the husk. I was a little hesitant, but I bit right into the raw corn and it was great. Nolan couldn't get enough and we had to stop him at 2 ears. We are still harvesting the beans, peas, and flowers.

The cucumbers and tomatoes are coming along and we should be eating those within the next 2-3 weeks. I'm expecting my raspberry and strawberry plants to start producing again in about a month or so. We've also had an abundance of flowers (See Picture Below) it's great because Chase helped me pick all the flowers and then surprised Jessica at the front door with a huge bouquet. It actually looks better in person than it does in the picture.

The other fun thing going on right now is the abundance of fire-flies and frogs. The other night, Chase, Nolan, Trent, Steve and I went out on Safari and went on the hunt for fire-flies. We had a blast chasing the fire-flies around the yard and putting them all in a bug catcher. Overall, we are all having a great time in GA!

The thing I love the most about this picture is the way Jess has Chase slung over her shoulder out in the water. It's still in question whether or not he's my kid because he's terrified of the waves. Nolan of course was NOT having any contact what-so-ever with the water. "It too cold Daddy." However, he had no problem destroying Chase's sandcastle while Chase was in the water.

Anyway...Many,many,many more pictures to come. Currently we are still operating on West coast time and desperately need to get re-adjusted. Going to bed at 1am or later just doesn't cut it. Thanks Aunt DeeDee for the pictures!

Happy Mothers Day Mom!

One of the greatest and most emotional moments of my life was the birth of my first son, Chase. I can remember immediately feeling this overwhelming surge of love that I had for this beautiful newborn baby. I remember the very first call I made was to my mom. I knew that she knew what I was feeling at that exact moment. Not much was said, verbally, during that phone call, but I realized at that moment how much she loved me.

As a fairly new mom (Chase is now 4, Nolan is 2) I am constantly reminded of how much she did for our family. She raised 6 children...enough said! I do not remember a sporting event that she did not attend, a recital that she did not help us prepare for, or a school project that didn't have her expert touch!

Some of the most memorable moments of my childhood include my birthday and Christmas time. My mom had a way of making those days feel magical. I loved waking up on my birthday and feeling like everyone knew it was my birthday, that is how special my mom made me feel that day. Thank you mom!

The most important thing my mom gave to me was a little piece of her testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ. I knew her strength as an individual and mom came because of her relationship with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. She taught us to look to Him in all things and this could be seen by the many sacred pictures of the Savior, Jesus Christ throughout our home. I knew I could turn to the Savior and feel His love and healing power in my life because of a mother who taught me the truth.

I love you mom with all of my heart!

Here's my tribute to you mom. Until only recently have I fully understood the true importance the role of mother plays in a family and to children. I'm so grateful for the countless hours of love, council, patience, advice, punishment, nursing, cooking, cheering, cleaning, teaching, playing, helping and worrying that you have given me over the past 35 years.

I'm proud to call you my mom. You have always taught me to be the best I can. You are generous and kind. I thought it only appropriate to add pictures as I take a stroll down memory lane. (You know I can't resist adding some comedy as well!)

Really, who doesn't have a great picture of their mom growing up in the 60's?

I think we were getting real close to the 70's here and the hair was still as great as ever!

You always knew the greatest places to take me, and I know we always had fun. It's funny some of the memories you have growing up and some of the greatest times growing up were summer BBQ's, walking down to the snow cone place on summer nights, Saturday soccer games, Christmas mornings, birthday party's, camping at the beach, swimming in the pool, the river, and all the times you let my friends come over and make a total mess of the house.

You always knew how to make me the best dressed kid on the block! I mean seriously, could that jacket be more regal? I've decided to skip adding all the first day of school pictures, because I think there is a point where my bad taste would show through. Plus I don't think anyone wants to see me in short shorts!

Thank you for always being that shoulder to rest on.

I really don't know why I love this picture so much...Every single time I see it I laugh. It was just such a trendy moment in time. I like to call it the Oprah era.

Through great times and tough times, I'm so thankful that you were my MOM first and my Friend second. I appreciate all that you've gone through in your life to make my life better.

Now in 2008 I still look forward to the weekly calls to give you updates about Chase and Nolan. I also don't know what I would do without all the gardening advice. Oh The Drama

The greatest thing about having a blog is the ability to keep it as a family journal. I love documenting some activities, achievements, and mishaps of the boys, and seeing how they grow and develop. The other day I was working on the computer and I vaguely heard the boys playing/fighting in the other room. It went on for a couple of minutes and it progressively got louder and louder. I've actually got to the point where I've been able to tune it out pretty well. However, Jess decided that she had heard enough when Nolan let out a big scream and started crying even louder.

She went in and shouted "SH*# CHASE...WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" Well I ran in as quickly as possible. (mostly because I know when Jess uses profanity it must be serious) All I really saw was Nolan bleeding from the mouth, and Chase crying. So I grabbed Chase and took him into his room to see what had happened. Apparently Nolan wasn't listening to Chase and didn't want to line up the planes in the correct order. (One of Jess's traits of course) Anyway, Nolan was getting upset and decided to punch Chase. Chase with his lightning quick skills decided to push Nolan with the pillow, and pushed his front two teeth into his lip.

So after all the pandemonium subsided Chase stayed in his room to cool off in time out, and Nolan came out to tell his side of the story. (see video) The greatest part of the entire event (besides Jessica's potty mouth) was the fact that Nolan needed a Band-aid. He didn't want Jess to put it on him, he just wanted her to unwrap it so he could put it on himself because he's a "Big Boy!"

Welcome Race Fans! Talladega 2008

Start your engines and get ready for the fastest, drunkest, most red-neck time you've ever had. I have to admit that Talladega was more than I expected. I liken it to anyone in California who has ever been to the Del Mar Fair on Rodeo night. You have never seen a crazier bunch of country folk around! The most notable moments were; The mullets, drunk toothless guys with no shirts, women getting beer poured on them, 70 year old women giving the finger to Dale Jr. fans, cans cans and more cans of Budweiser, and the $40 nascar shirts that you can buy at Walmart for $8. Other than that Chase and I had a great time. We went with Steve and Trent and got to the race about 45 minutes after it started. We walked around for a little while looking at all the exhibits and then a guy approached us and gave us a free ticket to get in. Chase and I went straight down to the track (See Video) and watched the cars for a while. He had a blast watching all the cars race by. His favorite car was the Office Depot car and it just so happened to be running in 25+ place. It's great watching the video and seeing all the cars go by and then Chase points out "His Racer"

Just a little inside joke between my sister Amy and myself. So one of the great benefits of living in a place receiving 50" of rain each year is our opportuity to grow all kinds of great things in our garden. It started out as a small project and has turned into MUCH more than originally anticipated. My original space started out being about 15'x20' with two tiers, but now has grown to be 15'x60'.

Chase and Nolan loved making the signs that are posted by each item. Nolan likes to water whenever he gets the opportunity, but it usually turns into a water fight where we are trying to get the hose away from him while he sprays Chase.

Chase likes to walk through the garden and count all the plants. He reminds me every day where each plant is and the name of each plant. I'm really excited for all the hard work to pay off and actually eat ANYTHING out of the garden.

The garden includes 50 strawberry plants, 18 raspberry bushes, 2 peach trees, 6 cucumber and tomato plants, 8 bell pepper plants, corn, green beans, peas, carrots, sunflowers, and wildflowers.

The Joys of the GHETTO "28's Baby"

As many people know, I have the great privilege of working in the GHETTO! When I say GHETTO, I mean GHETTO. Steve and I often refer to a small class of people who can't seem to break out of the GHETTO and make it in main stream society. This class has been labeled by Steve and me as the GHETTO RICH!

One of my most favorite things to do is collect pictures of these peoples cars. It's so great living the dream of the GHETTO RICH and just waiting for the day when I can drive up to Steve's house and pick him up in a car like this. ENJOY!

PS. For all you haters out there...They're 28's! After a short conversation with "AK"...(a nickname given to him by Steve because of the tattoo of an AK47 machine gun on his stomach which read Alabama under it) He told us that the car cost him over $50k. The wheels alone were $10k and the tires another $4k. Too bad the kid doesn't know that he could have bought 5 homes just down the street for the same price as he bought his car. Oh Well!!!

Fieldtrip to Butts Mill Farm

I guess the fieldtrip is a success when your child is sprawled out across the rocks at the end begging to go home and take a nap!

We started off on the pony rides. Chase ran to be first in line and Nolan didn't quite know if he wanted to do it. Once he was on the pony, he kept saying "This good, this good." If you don't know Nolan, this expressionless face means that he is really liking what he is doing!

Chase's favorite part was the cow milking contest. Although you really cannot tell by looking at his face!

There were lots of animals to feed and luckily no fingers were lost and there was plenty of hand sanitizer to go around!

Backyard Zipline

The Gentle Healer

In the small foyer at the enterance to our home hangs this picture of the Savior, Jesus Christ. I gave this, as a gift, to Hank one year for Christmas. It is titled, so appropriately, "Gentle Healer." We have had this picture for 3 years. I love this picture. I have walked by it numerous times in this home as well as in homes we have lived in previously. I always have the same simple smile on my face as I feel the warmth of His glow.

Since moving to Georgia in August of last year our family has been blessed tremendously. We have felt the love of the Savior Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father in our lives. I have been amazed by the people of the South and the incredible Christlike lives that they lead. They are the most unselfish, kind, and gracious people I have ever met. They would give you the shirt off their own back at any moment. I have also been amazed by their quest for religious knowledge. Their desire to know the Savior Jesus Christ and to adopt His Christlike behavior. This has given me the desire to further educate myself on the doctrines of my faith.

Growing up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and being the oldest of six children was often crazy. I can remember one evening as a high school student, feeling particularly overwhlemed by the demands of school work, church activities, and athletics. When I returned home on this specific evening I remember my dad asking each of us to bring our scriptures to the living room as we would be having family scripture study and a brief Family Home Evening. I do not remember the words that were spoken, but I do remember the feelings that I had. I knew that what I had been taught was true. It has been said that religion is more than a belief it is something that is felt within us. I knew that the Holy Ghost had taught me one of the greatest lessons I could learn and that is the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

"Gentle Healer" reminds me of that evening. It rememinds me of the love that my Savior has for me and the love that He has for each of us. I have felt His healing touch and know that He lives!

Snow in Georgia???

Nobody tell Al Gore, but it's snowing in LaGrange! Thank goodness for the bubble that blocks out global warming here in LaGrange.

Today was very exciting. The boys loved being in the snow and playing until they couldn't feel their fingers any longer. In some ways it makes us miss AZ and San Diego. However, it doesn't make us miss Utah. Chase and Nolan loved pushing the tractors through the snow and making all kinds of "Tracks." Nolan of course loved eating the snow more than anything. I was shocked when Chase started picking up the snow and started throwing it at Nolan and the house. They ran after each other for about 10 minutes throwing snow at each other. It was pretty classic!

This picture is of Chase throwing a mini-snowball at me when I was taking his picture. Thankfully Aunt Amy just sent us some cold weather Nissan and Infinity gear to keep us warm. This picture was taken at about 11am when it first started snowing hard. The picture above was taken about 12:30, so you can see the difference an hour and a half makes.

It's only typical that LaGrange hasn't recieved any snow since 2001. Of course the year we move here it snows(we swore we would never live where it snowed!). The best part of this picture is that the camera took the picture right before Hank slipped in the snow. Don't worry nothing happened...until he came inside the house with his wet shoes and slipped on the tile. It's nice to know we don't have to deal with snow for more than a day or two.

Although, it doesn't look like much, I think there might be as much as two inches of snow on the ground. Jessica was thrilled when Amanda called to let her know that church was cancelled. Only in the South would a little snowfall deter people from getting in their cars and driving the dangerous roads of Georgia.

Thank you Aunt Amy and Uncle J for seeing a need for beanies... they were put to great use today with all the snow!

My New Running Partner

So my dreams as a mom and runner have finally come true. Chase got a bike for Christmas and he is pretty fast. The other day I was getting ready to go for a run and Hank mentioned that I should take Chase. I didn't really want to. Hank decided to mention it to Chase and there was no way I would say no at that point. We both got bundled up (it was 45 degrees outside) and we were off. Hank (& Nolan) drove the car next to us just in case Chase got tired. He made it 2.5 miles before he said he was ready for a break and hopped in the car. I was so excited I would no longer have to push him in the jogger (it lightened my load by 40 pounds)!

A Magical Christmas!

For Christmas this year my parents took us and my sisters' family to DisneyWorld. It was an amazing trip. I felt like I was young again while experiencing the magic that happens when you walk through the gates to the Magic Kingdom.

There were two highlights on the Disney trip...the first, the one-on-one meeting with Mickey Mouse. My boys were in awe, it was great. They did not stop hugging Mickey. The second, Chase's ride on Splash Mountain. We were all shocked that he loved it so much. For those of you who know Chase, I know you are surprised that he did not cry!

Thanks Mom and Dad for your generosity and for the most magical Christmas gift yet!

Happy Birthday Nolan!

I cannot believe that my baby is 2! There have been moments during the past two years of his life that were not quite so happy...but today was a special day. I stayed up until 2am with my mother-in-law to complete this famous Elmo cake that I have made for two too many birthdays. Each time I go back and forth saying I am going to make it and then I am not going to make it. And each time at about 10pm I decide that I am going to make it. At 2am I told Hank that I am never going to make it again.

When Nolan woke up this morning and saw his "Em-o" cake he was so happy. He told everyone all day about it and Chase kept telling me that I had done a "beautiful job" on the cake. I guess that is what a birthday is all about...making someone feel loved and special if only for just a day. We love you Nolan!

"Santa is Coming!!!"

I'm sure there has never been two more excited boys to have Christmas come than Chase and Nolan. The night the Christmas tree was decorated, Chase turned to Jess and said, "O.K mommy, tomorrow Santa Claus comes." Unfortunately the tree was put up on November 30th.

The greatest thing about being a parent is seeing the excitement of a small child and the wonder of Christmas as you share stories, read books, and watch Christmas movies. However, maybe even better than that is a tactic I like to call "Don't make me call Santa!"

Whenever Chase or Nolan gets out of hand, we threaten to get on the phone and call Santa. The other night Chase refused to eat his dinner. After a quick call to Santa, (aka Hank Sr.-whose cleverly disguised voice was as funny as it was convincing ) made Chase sit straight up in his chair and completely finish his dinner after Santa threatened to take away all his presents.

So to all those parents out there consider this as our Christmas gift to you...Use the Santa Tactic whenever needed.

PS-You'll need to find your own Santa...Shortly after posting this, Hank Sr. was flooded with over 30 calls an hour wanting the voice of Santa to repremand their children.

Hungry For Snacks

Shortly before dinner, and resembling a scene from Cliffhanger, Chase was spotted trying to locate "Snacks" in the pantry. Thankfully all the snacks are in the lower drawers of the pantry where the kids can easily access them. However, Chase thought that maybe his parents might be hiding the mother load of snacks on the top shelf.

To his dismay the only things on the top shelf were cups, juice, gatorade and paper towels. Thankfully Jess needed some paper towels so Chase was able to help her out with that task.

Apparently as boys get older, their desire to explore and to take risks outweigh their comprehension of what the consequences may be. Prior to Chase's "Summit for Snacks," he and Nolan were jumping off the bed and trying to land in the back of the dump truck. It was a unanimous decision not to show the picture of Nolan's elbow after the incident.

The old song "No more monkeys jumping on the bed" should also include the couch. Nolan decided Sunday night that even though he hasn't reached the age of 2 yet that he might possibly be able to fly.

Chase, Trent and Nolan started off playing a game of hide-n-seek and the game quickly turned into a game of jumping on the couch.

The large thud coming from the other room and Trent saying "I didn't do anything!" tipped us off that something was wrong.

Nolan cried for about 30 seconds and then realized the ice was way more interesting than goose egg on his head.

First of all, anyone who knows me, knows that I usually do not do stuff like this. However, since both of my boys are taking naps (small miracle) I have decided that I have the time to do it.

Here are the rules: A. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning. B. Each player lists 6 facts/habits about themselves. C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

1. I love to run. I really don't know why I love it so much, but I think everyone who knows me would say it is some sort of addiction that I have. If I do not run, everyone runs away from me. I am completely dependent on the endorphins and it is these endorphins that give me the rush to get through each day with my kids.

2. Organization was ingrained in me as a child. My dad is extremely organized and I am assuming this is where I learned the value of organization. I love to open drawers and closets and have them free from clutter. I have been known to throw things away (even useful things) if they contribute in any way to cluttering my organization.

3. Thursday. My favorite day of the week is Thursday. This is the day I clean my house. Again, another obsessive compulsive trait that I have is maintaining a clean home. I should say Thursday night is my favorite, because that is when the cleaning is complete and my home is free from any dirt that has been brought in from the "new trails" in the backyard that Hank made for the boys.

4. Biting my fingernails is something I have done for years. It is a habit that I have tried to break numerous times. Unfortunately, I have had no success. If anyone is reading this and has broken this awful habit...please let me know how you did it.

5. Going to the movies is something that I have not had the opportunity to do more than once a year since my children were born. However, I would like to change that soon. I love getting red licorice and popcorn and watching a highly anticipated movie in the theater (without kids).

6. Being with my family at home. There is no place I would rather be than at home with my boys (Hank included!). Even in my childhood, I was always a home-body. Now that I have created a home for my individual family...this is the place I prefer over anything else.

Georgia Birthday Party

Last weekend Chase and Nolan were invited to a birthday party. The theme was tractors. When we arrived at the home of the grandparents of Cayden (the birthday boy) they had about 5 or 6 huge tractors parked in the front yard for the party. My kids were the happiest I have ever seen them. They ran from one tractor to the next for about an hour.

This yard consisted of 24 acres of lush greenery and a pond for the kids to fish in at the end of the party...and it was stocked full of catfish...luckily, for me, the kids did not catch anything. Catfish are a little creepy looking.

Some of the older kids that attended the party were being entertained by the mini go-karts. Hank thought it would be "fun" to teach our boys how to drive the go-karts. Chase liked it, but Nolan refused to get off it once he learned he could do it all by himself. For those of you who are wondering if we have completely lost our minds letting our children drive a go-kart by themselves...they only go about 3-4 mph. Pumpkin Patch 2007

I have finally succumbed to the world of blogging and decided to write my first entry.
Unfortunately, I have nothing funny to report on, just the annual trip to the pumpkin patch.
My sister and I decided to muster up the courage to take all 4 kids. After about 1 hour of being there we were tired and ready to go home. The kids on the other hand, could have stayed all day. They had the greatest time, which of course made it worth our time!

So surely everyone has heard about the South and the particular dialect, words, and phrases which are used in everyday conversation. Listed are the top 3 stories which have all happened to Hank over the last month.

#3- Get'em with gas! That'll kill em!

While trimming some trees in the front yard of the house Hank and Steve are working on, they were attacked by a swarm of hornets. Needless to say, the hornets won the first round. However, in GA the country folk know how to get back at them there hornets. After a few bottles of gasoline down the hornets nest, only a few remaining hornets lived to see another day. The landscaper (who could not of been more than 19, but married for a couple years...do the quick math...) said that gasoline works all the time. "Juz don't smoke-round the hole when you pour the gas in." Thanks for the advice!!!

#2-You favor Dr. Johnson the dentist...Y-all Kin?

Upon meeting a local roofer...who had very few teeth...(go figure) After a few minutes of talking with him about an upcoming project, he looks right at Hank and says, "You favor Dr. Johnson...Y-all Kin? The translation was apparently Hank looked like a local dentist and the roofer wanted to know if we happened to be related at all.

#1-Juriand-Firs

Just before closing on our house, Hank called the insurance lady to get a quote for the house. After going through a few questions about personal belongings, tools, electronics, and miscellaneous items, she asked Hank about his Juriand-Firs. Perplexed, Hank quickly covered the phone and asked Steve for assistance. Steve had no idea what she said so Hank said "I don't know." After a few more minutes of questioning on the phone the insurance lady asked again, "How about your Juriand-Firs? Thinking this was some new thing that only existed in Georgia, Hank said, "I'm sorry, I really don't know what that is." The lady quickly responded, "You know, like yur, gold, diamonds, necklaces..." "AAAHHHH, you mean Jewelry and Furs.",

Cleaning up in GA

Well after a month of settling in, the Armstrong family has finally been able to take a quick breather just long enough to give a quick update. Currently the temp is 65 degrees and we are loving every minute...Sorry AZ people!

Chase has started preschool twice a week and loves going to Miss Mary-Kate's house (his teacher) Although Hank was a little concerned after the 3 weeks straight of asking what Chase learned about in school, and his response was "The letter F!" Hank always thought maybe when the kids were young to focus on the letter "A" to set the expectation high. At least we're only dealing with the letter F and not the F word...

Nolan has started coming out of his shell more and loves being outside. He will for sure be the kid bringing in pet snakes, lizards, bugs, and anything else he can find. He loves the backyard and cries if he isn't able to go out when he wants. The other day it was pouring rain and he stood sobbing at the backyard because Jess wouldn't let him out in fear that mud might be tracked back through the home. Nolan has also started whistling since being in Georgia. It's not a traditional whistle, but more of a scream mixed with a stutter. The best part about it is how he puts his hands over his mouth to enhance the pitch and range of the whistle.

Jessica is starting to adjust and has been thrown into the fast lane of Georgia activities around town. In between running, the gym, and cleaning (in that order) she manages to keep the boys on track, juggle 2 different play groups, a monthly dinner group, nightly dinner for the family, all the accounting for the business and a host of miscellaneous other chores and duties. She truly deserves the mother/wife of the year award.

Hank has been working steady 12 hour days for the last month trying to complete the first house. As of today, the only things left are a few miscellaneous light fixtures, door fixtures, closet shelves and cleaning. We are hoping to have the official open house next Tuesday. We will keep you posted and send a link with pictures.

Almost Packed and Ready

While the sorting, organizing, separating, throwing away, and packing went under way, Chase decided to take a break from his labor intensive day and curl up in one of the moving boxes with a nice book. When asked about his feelings on the upcoming move, Chase said, "Sometimes we go to the airport on a bus and then the plane goes to Minnesota. Then we go on the plane again to Georgia and see Aunt Manda, Dukie and Uncle Steve-o...and the moving truck is coming in 8 or 10 or 20 days!"

CHILD VS. WILD

Discovery Channel MAN VS. WILD host, author and seasoned adventurer Bear Grylls began a lifetime of exploration at an early age. Bear grew up on the Isle of Wight, and as a young boy would go mountain climbing with his father.

Nolan Armstrong is no different and is one of Bears biggest fans. In a recent episode, Bear showed how to survive in harsh desert environments for weeks at a time. Nolan took careful notes and decided to give it a try. With the help of aunt Aarean's caramel bars, Nolan demonstrated how to sneak up on the caramel bar without being spotted. He attacked the caramel bar delivering it's fatal blow. Nolan on the verge of starvation did not wait to build a fire or even skin the caramel bar. Instead, he devoured the bar like a primitive caveman.

Discovery Channel has been reported saying that they are currently in negotiations with Nolan's managers and publicist trying to develop the new hit reality TV show scheduled to air this fall, "CHILD VS. WILD."

Apple Juice Meets Toe

Some bystanders said they could hear the cursing for miles. Yes Monday was a trying time in the Armstrong household. While pulling a brand new completely full 1 gallon of Costco's finest apple juice out of the refrigerator, Jessica attention was diverted for a Milli-second. Just enough time for the apple juice to slip from her Kung-Fu grip and fall almost 6 feet landing directly on her toe.

Luckily Chase only repeats certain words that his parents mutter but I think even at his young age, he knew better than to repeat any words muttered from Jessica. Nolan thankfully has only begun to attempt the English language, we believe his native tongue is a mix between Swahili and German.

Although the apple juice crushed Jessica's toe and left a bruise over a majority of her foot, she thankfully was still able to make it to the gym that day. Tomorrow, her plans include running 5 miles and chasing the kids around the house.

The Winds Are Blowin'

In what some are calling natures fury at it's best, Monday night's storm proved to be more than Chase and Nolan could tolerate.

Resembling a Southern California fire, dust, (as seen in the picture to the right), rain, lightning, thunder, and wind whipping at speeds in excess of 60mph. were some of the exciting activities of the night. After recent storms during this years monsoon season, Chase was quoted today saying "Uh-Oh Dad, it looks like another tree is blowing right over in our backyard." When asked for his thoughts about the storm, Nolan said, "Purple..."

Georgia Bound

It is official! The Armstrong's have just reported in an exclusive that they are truly on their way to Georgia. February 12, 2003 marked 270 years since General James Oglethorpe and his shipload of settlers reached their new home and founded the colony of Georgia. The last of the 13 British colonies on the Atlantic seaboard, Georgia was founded on February 12, 1733 at the present site of the city of Savannah.

When asked how they were going to cope with the drastic change from desert living in the west, Jessica Armstrong was quoted saying, "Well Y'All I think we ought bee goin' to the Waffle House and gettin ourselves some bisketz." We were unable to reach Governor Sonny Perdue of Georgia for comment on his feelings of the Armstrong move.

Most Like Grandma J

Amongst other summertime activities, the new favorite around the Armstrong household involves popsicles, being outside, and the hose. (In that order!!) Yes there is definitely a reason that Jessica Armstrong was voted "Most like Grandma J." The zero tolerance rule has always been in effect for anything that drips, drops, crumbles, or leaks in the Armstrong home. Therefore, the only place Chase and Nolan will be eating anything like a popsicle this summer will be outdoors.

However the story does not end there. Only after enjoying their sticky melting treat were the Armstrong boys introduced to the outdoor shower/bath. Instead of leading the boys upstairs for their usual evening bath, they were quickly stripped down of all clothing and given an outdoor shower (shampoo and all) surely Grandma J. would have been proud!

BIG J CONSPIRACY???

In what may prove to be one of the largest conspiracies to hit the United States in the last decade, you will only hear about it here first. July 4th, 2007. Some have said that it was the unofficial first day of the Jergensen family reunion. However, when a large group of family members decided to celebrate their 4th of July at Big J's, to their alarm, the small restaurant was closed.

Then to top it off, the official first day of the Jergensen family reunion almost came to a complete hault and shut down when the news of Big J's milkshake machine being broken was brought to their attention. Could this be a conspiracy against the well known Jergensen family, or just a coincidence? You make the choice!

Two Kids Eager For Vacation

"Safety First!" Are the words uttered by the Mother of Chase and Nolan Armstrong. The two toe headed toddlers get ready for a week on the indomitable Snake River. When asked how they feel about wearing their new river apparel, Chase said, "I like it really really!" Nolan with a nodding head said, "OOHHHAAAEEEAA!"

The two kids are counting down the minutes until they can actually go outside without having to withstand the 114 degree weather. Chase mentioned, "Only one more sleepy time until we get to go to IIIDAAAAAHO!"

As the minutes tick by, the residents of St. Anthony Idaho are anticipating members of the Jergensen clan to swarm upon the small city for what is destine to be the most outrageous family reunion the city has ever seen.

When asked, the owner of Big J's Drive In restaurant said she's stocking up on an extra 400lbs of hamburger patties and 250lbs of french fries. "We're ready for those crazy Jergensen people...This year we've hired extra help in anticipation for this event."

It is Official!

The Armstrongs have decided to put their home on the market and make the long move to Georgia.

Although they have only been in their home for a few months, the executive decision was made to sell their home and move Georgia. The Armstrong's are planning on starting and running Madison Earl Development with the McMinn family who currently resides in the small town of Lagrange, GA.

Nolan "Caught on Tape"

Nolan was recently spotted in what some are calling the most outrageous stunt of the summer.

During a recent motorcycle ride, Nolan thought it best if he remove all his clothes. Apparently the attempt to be as aerodynamic as possible backfired when the neighbors started complaining about the public nudity laws.

Even the threat of major fines couldn't persuade this kid to put his clothes back on. Hopefully next time he will at least wear shoes.

Chase tries to beat the summer heat!

Chase was recently spotted at the clubhouse pool diving for rings and torpedo's. With the heat constantly rising in the Phoenix Valley this summer, Chase regularly turns to the pool as a way to get relief from the scorching sun.

When asked for a brief interview to talk about the pool, Chase said, "I love the pool...sometimes mommy gets me pretzels and a hot dog at the pool...but I don't like the slide...maybe I will go on the slide Thursday or Monday.

Chase recently was spotted trying to ride the kick board as a surfboard and was able to swim the entire length of the large lap pool by himself. This is one kid that could quite possibly grow gills.
